Light Up Your Kitchen Tips

Today the kitchen as in olden days is now becoming one of the busiest rooms in a family home. Therefore the interior lighting design that you choose for your kitchen is an extremely important element of any kitchen remodel.

Often the kitchen in most family homes is now used as a home office, as well as a study area for the kids and a place where the family and their friends gather. Therefore you need to ensure that you have the right lighting to ensure that you create the perfect atmosphere whether for general purposes or when you are entertaining.

When it actually comes to selecting the right kind of lighting for your kitchen this can be an extremely easy task. The first thing you will need to do is look at those areas where you need sufficient lighting so that all tasks within the kitchen can be carried out safely. Below we provide you with some ideas of the types of lighting you should be considering for various areas in your kitchen.

1. Sink Area

Why not use 1 or 2 track lights over this area in order that they provide you with ample light so that you can see what you are doing when you are washing up dishes and pots.

2. Counter Tops

The best type of lighting to use here is under cabinet lighting. This will then provide you not only with a well lit work area but will also ensure that the whole top is free of shadows. It is best that you mount these lights at the back of the cabinets as this will then prevent glare from being produced of the counter top surfaces. Also select fluorescent fixtures which are not only energy efficient but should be able to cover about 2/3rds of the total length of the counter where they are to be located.

3. Cooker or Range Top

Most people will have now had fitted a range hood that incorporates not only an extraction fan but lighting also. However if you want to provide additional lighting to this area then why not consider having a recessed down light installed to cover the whole area of the stove.

4. Breakfast Bar

Normally a good overhead light or two is ideal for this particular area of the kitchen. It is this area of the kitchen where good lighting is essential as often it is a place where people will sit and read.

Above we have provided you with a few ideas in relation to help your plan good interior lighting design for kitchen. But it is important to remember when planning such a design you need to include ambient and accent lighting as well as decorative lighting to truly make your kitchen feel warm and inviting.
